The inaugural Esports World Cup boasts a record $62.5 million prize pool

The first-ever Esports World Cup is currently being held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from July 3 to August 25, 2024. As per the numbers presented by NoKyc.com, the entire event boasts a record prize pool of $62.5 million.

World Cup to feature 21 different game titles

The inaugural Esports World Cup, which is being touted as a landmark event in Esports history, features 22 events across 21 different video game titles. The event includes almost every popular competitive esports game, such as Apex Legends, CoD Warfare and MW3, Counter-Strike 2, DOTA 2, FC 24, Fortnite, Free Fire, Honor of Kings, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (men & women), League of Legends, Overwatch 2, PUBG: Mobile, PUBG: Battlegrounds, Rainbow Six Siege, Rennsports, Rocket League, StarCraft II, Street Fighter 6, Teamfight Tactics, and Tekken 8.

The World Cup, which will go on for more than a month, has replaced the previously held theGamers8 festival, which also took place in Saudi Arabia. Overall, 30 professional teams from the five major competitive regions – Europe, North America, Asia, South America, and the Middle East – are competing for the major prize haul.

Of the overall prize money, $20m is reserved for the Club Championship. This cross-game competition will be determined by the performances of various competing clubs/teams in individual events. In any event, the first position is set to earn 1000 points for a team; the second position equates to 600 points, and so on, up until the eighth position. 

The first team/club in the Club championship is slated to earn $7m. $4m is reserved for the second spot and $2m for the third spot. The top sixteen clubs/teams are guaranteed prize money, ranging from $7m to $150k, in the club championship.

A further $33.8m is reserved for individual Game championships. This prize money will be divided amongst teams occupying top spots in 22 individual events.  $7.6 million in prize money is reserved for teams competing in qualifying events. 

A total of $1.1m will be awarded to MVPs across the events, with the MVP of every tournament earning $50,000.
